When looking at a 3 month trip the practical aspects of having a house becomes a problem. You have to have someone checking the place, mowing the lawns and keeping on top of things. Our answer to that was to do short-term rentals while we are away from home.
We had hoops to jump through to make that happen - we needed a BC provincial registration number - but to get that we needed a City of Kamloops business license. Sounds easy, but Kamloops had to update bylaws to do the business license. Either way, that is all done and we are now listed on Airbnb.
We don't know exactly how this will play out, but it looks like the house will look after itself while we are away. With the help of family and friends, the yard and house are being looked after and we have hired someone to manage the ever important guest change over and cleaning process. We are feeling like we have this sorted out - we know things will come up, we have done short-term rentals before - but we should be able to enjoy our trip and not worry about the house.
