Goodbye Quebec, Hello Ontario

We headed down to Quebec City, going first to Montmorency Falls, a tall waterfall that cascades down a few hundred feet to the river below. They say BC means "bring cash", but I think that applies more to Quebec, at least their parks. $27 to wander the grounds near the falls, but we weren't interested in paying more for other things like a zip line.

Pete enjoyed a swim in the river, then we headed into QC to the Plains of Abraham and Chateau Frontenac. The history of the area is well cared for by the National Parks (Canada) so we enjoyed walking Battlefield Park and down to the Chateau. The bus tours were clogging the streets so we had an ice cream then headed back to the van and called it a night.

We had a brilliant sunset over the St Lawrence as we headed to our HH in Beaumont. We had picked up a compact gas campfire in Saguenay so we pulled that out and sat around the flames as we got to know Carl and his dog, Mr Bones. Carl is an aspiring writer and full time nomad living out of his mini-van.

A marathon was scheduled for QC for the next day so we decided to catch up with a good friend back in Perth, Ontario. Along the way we stopped in Cornwall for coffee then met with our next would-be bicycle thief. He was trying to cut the bike cable lock, but he wasn't up to the task; kudos again to Rocky Mounts for their cable lock. I took his picture then sent him on his way, checked the bike tie-downs (not cut) then carried on to our friend's place in Perth. I think the guy was more embarrassed at being caught than anything else.

We slowed down in Perth and enjoyed some of the local historic sites nearby in Merrickville where we wandered around town and explored the locks on the Rideau Canal before dinner. The next day was wet and dreary but the colors are looking good even though the leaf color change is past it's peak. We headed over to Westport and wandered the town, then headed up to a conservation area to give Pete a good run in the woods.

We will be heading up to Ottawa next, then begin the cross-country trek home.
