Coast to Coast – Check!

We had rain for the drive, nothing terrible but we did have some wind gusts pushing the van around. We stopped at the Macmillan Park and walked the boardwalks through the old growth forest before carrying on to Port Alberni. We had a coffee stop at Riverbend, then onward to Ucluelet.

Still raining and windy but good conditions for a stop by Black Rock; there is a public path behind the resort that is probably one of the most recognizable Ucluelet images to be found. We go there every time we come down hoping for bigger waves and better light. We got the waves but really flat light. Still impressive. We tried out a new location we heard about on the way into town, there re good waves there too but the light was awful.

We called it a day and headed towards Tofino for our campsite at Bella Pacifica. It was wet and windy but we were done for the day. Come morning the clouds parted and we had a sunny day with little wind so a morning walk on McKenzie Beach for us and a good run for Pete was a good start to the day. We played tourist and wandered into Tofino. We reached the "end" of the Pacific side of the  Trans Canada highway officially completing our coast to coast adventure. We still have a few days left, so we will keep with the wandering plan!

We went to Long Beach to walk and watch waves and surfers, taking the time to have lunch as we watched. I pulled out the new 600mm lens to try and spent a considerable amount of time snapping pics of waves and some surfers. We came back to camp, walking the beach and enjoyed the sunset. The day ended with us sitting around the portable firepit with Pete hanging out on our feet.

Our time on the west coast of Vancouver Island was one of rain; every morning with some days clearing up in the afternoon for a warm time; or just rain. On our drive over to Courtney and Campbell River on Tuesday, we had rain and the forecast included wind warnings for the west and east coast of the Island. We took time out for another walk for Pete in the old growth forest, and stopped at Nymph Falls near Courtney. With the heavy rain the river looked to be at capacity but we explored it anyway. Our raincoats did their job, but we still got wet from waist down. We are parked up with the heater on and PJ pants on as we dry out. Hoping for some dryer weather tomorrow, but it is the west coast, that may or may not happen.
