We were up and on the road early to catch the Nanaimo ferry. Pete was a bit thrown by the early start but he slept most of the way to Horseshoe Bay. The roads were good, we arrived early and the ferry sailed on time.
We drove up to Coombs and boondocked for the night. Pete got a good walk in the rain before dark then we hunkered down for the night. There was rain again in the morning but we headed out anyway with raincoats.
First stop was Little Qualicum Falls which looks great in the rain, very rich colors. Fall is later in the rain forests so we are enjoying the yellow and gold leaves against the mossy forest. Pete enjoyed racing the trails and was a soaking wet pup by the time we were done.
Next stop was Englishman Falls which was fuller than normal thanks to the steady rain. That said, the clouds started to break up and we had a great afternoon. These falls were a lot bigger than in the morning and liked amazing in the misty forest with the sun rays coming through.
We finished the day out at Qualicum Beach where we met some locals while walking their dog. The rain started up again once we parked up in Coombs for the night; the forecast is for high winds but we haven't seen that yet. We are heading to Tofino tomorrow and it looks like we should get some great storm powered waves. Here's hoping!
