Sussex and St Martins

Last week before going to PEI we met Karen and her friends when we were in Alma, after camping in Bay of Fundy National Park. She invited us to park in her driveway in Sussex NB so we could see the hot air balloons from the Atlantic International Balloon Fiesta, 39th annual. We decided to take her offer and came back to NB. She is in an area that has several covered bridges, so we have enjoyed stopping and checking those out too.

We had a great view of the balloons drifting over the skyline, and some right over her house. We could step out of the van and enjoy the view with coffee in hand. Balloons are fickle things and can't fly if the weather doesn't cooperate, but in Sussex they still have fun.

We were down in the park for the opening ceremony with the RCMP pipe band and to watch the evening launch, but that was cancelled due to wind. Instead, they did a candle burn with the torches of the balloons contributing to a great party atmosphere.

We had such a fun time with Karen and her friends but we gave hugs and good byes, but I am sure we will meet again.

We headed down to St Martins in the morning, much needed rain cancelled the morning flights. The drive down was interesting as the trees are starting to get their fall colors; there were small patches of reds and orange starting to form.

It was wet and foggy in St Martins but we could see the sea caves that the area is known for. My step sister, Darlene, met us and we spent the day with her and her family at their cabin. We had fun catching up and getting re-aquainted. Her grand sons were so much fun as were her family.

We woke up to more rain and a wet dog, but that is fine as we were having a driving day, heading into Nova Scotia and down to Peggy's Cove.
