Hello New Brunswick

Well, great plans need to flex for the weather. We woke through the night to the sound of steady rain that didn't let up. With the rain, we decided to postpone visiting Quebec City until our return trip in October and carried on into New Brunswick where we grabbed a campsite near Edmundston. We were due to fill fresh water and drain the grey (98% full) anyway, and having hot showers were all pluses.

We stuck with the slow drive off the Trans Canada and followed the shore of the St Lawrence River to Riviere-du-Loup. We found several small villages along the way, all with impressive churches at the center of town and, of course, the all important coffee and maple muffins. We stopped at Parc des Greves, a section of protected shoreline on the St Lawrence for a break for Pete. The grasses in the tidal areas where blowing in the wind, taking on a look like wheat on the prairie. Very peaceful and a good place to be to recharge.

As we continued, we found a fromagerie (cheese factory and shop) with expensive cheese that my resident cheese expert couldn't quite bring herself to buy ($30 for a small wedge).

There are still storm clouds in the area, I expect that we will be getting rain or a storm over the next couple of days, likely a spin off from Hurricane Erin. We will be heading over to Bathurst (well, that is the current plan) tomorrow where we will start exploring the Maritime coast. At some point this week I will be connecting with a step-sister (in St. John) to catch up a bit there. Mandy is all excited now; her happy place is by the sea and we will be either on it or near it for the next month.

  1. Make sure you go check out Hopewell Rocks (dog friendly with leash) …super cool to go on the ocean floor between the sea stacks when the tide is out …Also the tidal boar is kind of neat to watch …and Tidal Board Brewery in Moncton (dog friendly)
…I’d have a bunch of other suggestions, but we normally don’t have our pup when we’re there…

    1. You got my attention with brewery… Overall travelling with Pete has gone well, we were surprised that dogs weren’t allowed in a run-of-the-mill municipal park. Hoping it is a one-off. Any other suggestions for the NB area for exploring, please send them our way!
