We drove across New Brunswick from Edmundston to Bathurst, then carried on about another hour to Lamèque where we are staying with a HHost. This one is a boondocker, just someone who is willing to let people park in his backyard (that backs onto the inlet) as part of Harvest Hosts.
The drive was different as there were almost no towns or villages along the way, just a long stretch of pavement without paved shoulders. I imagine the soundtrack for this stretch of road would be the theme from Deliverance. We had our first real close call today; someone was intent on passing a freight truck coming towards us so we had to pull over to the soft shoulder to avoid a collision. I guess that practice run with the soft shoulder in Manitoba paid off today. Fortunately, no other travel problems to report.
We stopped in Bathurst so Mandy and Pete could play in the bay, not the open Atlantic yet, but we should see that tomorrow when we go up to see the lighthouse at Miscou Island. Pete was spitting out the salty water, at least in as much as a dog can spit! We are staying at Lamèque for two nights, then we will start working our way down towards St John. We are getting rain again, but that is a good thing; New Brunswick is lifting their ban on entering forest areas tonight. That should open up other hiking and biking opportunities over the coming week.
