Back to Calgary

One of our recurring habits after numerous trips is that once we head for home we lose interest in playing tourist. Staying true to form, we had a couple of drive days, stopping in Souris Manitoba. On our travel east we stopped at the municipal campground, but heading west we stayed at Don's place, a HH boondocker. He got us squared away then we took Pete out for a walk then a run.

In Souris the Minary Bakery makes Sasquatch sized fritters and amazing cinnamon buns at equally amazing prices. (From our point of view, Souris had the best cinnamon buns, probably followed by those found in Alma, NS.)  We loaded up on both then hit the road again. We drove through to Moosejaw to see the moose and the Snowbird plane, then carried on to Maple Creek in Saskatchewan and pulled into the tourist info center. They gave us the green light to overnight in the parking lot then they noticed Pete sitting in the driver's seat of the van. When he is noticed in my seat he changes seats and acts innocent of any possible wrong.

We released the hound and chatted with the tourism rep and with a member of the Cypress Hills tourism board. They are winding up for the season so they gave us a couple of hoodies from their left over stock. Pat led us into Maple Creek for supper before parting ways. We have met some truly extraordinary people on this trip.

We parked up for the day then watched a brilliant prairie sunset, a great end to a great travel day. We had about four hours drive to get to Calgary, so looking forward to seeing family and the new grandson.

We are using the time in Calgary as an opportunity to restock and pick things up. With the change in weather we decided that our commercial delivery tires weren't up to travelling the mountains so we stopped in at Integra who got us setup with all weather tires on a next day basis. Same as in Kamloops, excellent service. I found a "deal" on a 600mm telephoto lens which I tested out on the dogs and the city squirrel, we picked up some shoes, and did a Costco run. We are getting set to continue our journey to the Pacific Ocean, likely heading to Tofino as that is the Pacific terminus of the Trans-Canada Highway and will complete our Coast-to-Coast roadtrip.
