Today was a wandering day. We headed up to the lighthouse at Miscou Island and found ourselves a coffee and blueberry pastry. The day took a turn for the better though rain clouds were never very far away. We met some interesting people today. The first was a guy that repairs old cameras and has 3D printed a mechanism to attach to a kite to allow him to do drone-like photography. The second was a fellow who sources and upfits specialty trucks; things like a military troop carrier that he brought in from the States and has done an RV upfit that puts our van to shame.
As to the lighthouse, we wandered the grounds, the beach, and Pete was chasing waves and running the beach. This lighthouse has been moved twice due to erosion and I suspect that the rip-rap along the beach isn't going to stop the waves from cutting into the bank. We met the fellow who was flying his kite contraption and chatted with his wife while he was doing his thing. In the waves about 20 meters off shore we watched seals or sea lions (not sure the difference really) playing and chasing fish. Apparently mackerel were in the area. We followed the lighthouse walk with a wildlife viewing area stop; the main attraction there was watching a heron in the wetlands.
We left the wetlands and seen a road that headed back to a beach area on the GPS so we headed back and met the guy with the converted troop carrier. We chatted with him and his wife for probably an hour, talking specs of power and gear ratio to solar and lithium batteries. It's cool chatting with someone who has done the same type of project as yourself but to a much higher standard. We got to kick the tires (46 inch high), climb into the cab and got the tour of their living space.
We got back to our HH location a bit early, and looked over maps to work out where to next. Thinking a national park about 2 hours south will be the plan. The storms kept their distance from us and we watched them off in the distance, and with ocean winds, we had a breezy and beautiful sunset followed by the setting moon. Pete wasn't impressed with me staying outside, he starts rounding us up when he decides it's bedtime. Cute and annoying at the same time! The wind is still blowing, picking up speed if anything. Best thing about it is all the no-see-ums and mosquitos have been blown away.
