Niagara Falls

We were up and on the road by 9am this morning, not early, but for us it felt that way. We are settling into a drifty kind of schedule that seems to be working for us. Jarvis is about an hour twenty from Niagara Falls, so we were in the area by about 10:30. Parking is pricey, and in expectation of challenges I left the bikes and bike racks back in Jarvis. We parked up in an East Indian restaurant parking lot for $10 a day, compared to $36 and up elsewhere.

We found the area to be more commercial and touristy than we typically care for, but we came for the falls, not Ripleys or wax museums. The falls were impressive, not question about it. When we got near the horseshoe falls you could feel the power and the mist felt like a light rain. As the day was around 30c, it felt very refreshing. We were keeping Pete hydrated and I think he quite liked the coolness of the mist. He handled the crowds very well, only scared one lady, but met at least a dozen dog lovers who had to come over and pet him.

With the promenade being so crowded, we didn't do much more than take in the falls from there. Having Pete with us limited us to what we could do and also shaped what we wanted to do. We left Niagara Falls and headed out to Niagara on the Lake and Fort George.

We pulled into an area by the lake for snack and coffee. Pete cooled down in the shade and we all enjoyed the breeze coming off the water. We found a local brewery and had a very nice honey ale, then hit the road back to the farm.

When we got back to Jarvis we decided to keep going south and ended up in Port Dover, a beach town on Lake Erie Pete just kept making new friends - from a group of young men to another group of teenage girls as well as a range of adults. He really does make meeting people easy. Over the course of the day Pete's new friends had offered up numerous suggestions for our travels.

We headed up towards Uxbridge on Friday, nothing good to say about traffic. The 401/402/403 were all full feeling like I was in the world's largest parking lot for a while. We pulled into Newmarket for fuel and a break, and will be heading on to Uxbridge later today. We are at another HH and plan to be doing some trail rides on our bikes for the next day or so.
